The Springfield Arts Commission, in collaboration with the Library Youth Services Department, and with community sponsorship, has in the past produced the Springfield Puppet Festival.  The festival was first held in 1994. It attracted over 1,200 children and adults annually, from our local area as well as out of town. As of 2016, the Arts Commission has not held a puppet festival for several years.

The festival, unique in the Northwest, featured performances by first-rate professional puppeteers. Over the course of five weeks of consecutive Saturdays, the youth workshops taught students the processes of puppet making, script writing, and performance.

The Springfield Puppet Festival was a delightful free event.  In 2007, the festival was proud to stage some of the performances in the new Richard E. Wildish Community Theater.
